Turkey Rally: Red Bull Rally Team win ‘after extra time’!
Andreas Aigner’s car investigated by FIA and found to be totally legitimate!
With their stunning success at the Turkey Rally a fortnight ago the Red Bull Rally Team and lead driver Andreas Aigner created history.
The Austrian driver took his third P-WRC win in a row, a feat that has been matched only once before, by Japanese driver Toshi Arai in 2003.
The Rally was sent into an unscheduled period of extra time however with a last-minute Turkish surprise. Andreas Aigner’s car was targeted by FIA technicians for a post-rally inspection. That sparked some wild rumours on the rally circuit . . . . . . these rumours have been quickly dismissed however.
Yesterday the FIA technicians visited the Red Bull Rally team, dismantled the car and conducted an exhaustive inspection. They found nothing at all out of the ordinary!
Team boss Raimund Baumschlager: “I never thought for a second that something was up with the car. I am pleased however that the inspection took place. We would never knowingly use non-homologated parts to give ourselves an advantage. The FIA should continue to rigidly enforce these inspections so that the sport remains honest.”
Andreas Aigner: “I was also expecting no other result. Routine inspections are really important in my view, as only a driver’s performance and the endurance of a car should be decisive.”
